Atlantic Immigration Program: Your Path to Canadian Permanent Residence
Are you a skilled worker or recent graduate dreaming of making Canada your home?
The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) could be your golden ticket! Tailored to the unique needs of Canada’s vibrant Atlantic provinces – New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador – the AIP is designed to welcome individuals eager to contribute their skills and talents to the region.
Program Eligibility
The AIP offers two promising streams for candidates: one for recent graduates and another for skilled workers. Recent graduates from recognized post-secondary institutions in Atlantic Canada get a special nod, while skilled workers need to meet specific criteria, including work experience, education, and language proficiency.
Work Experience
Skilled workers must have accumulated a minimum of 1,560 hours of work in the last five years, showcasing their expertise in specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 categories. Don’t worry if you’re an international graduate – you’re exempt from this requirement if you meet the educational criteria.
Educational and Language Requirements
Your educational background matters, and the AIP recognizes that. Depending on the NOC 2021 Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) category of your job offer, you may need a Canadian post-secondary educational credential or its equivalent. Language proficiency is equally important, with minimum requirements ranging from CLB/NCLC 4 to CLB/NCLC 5.
Settlement Funds
Ensuring you have a smooth transition, the AIP requires candidates to prove they have sufficient funds to support themselves and their families upon arrival. The required amount varies based on family size, ranging from $3,439 for singles to $9,101 for families of seven.
Job Offer Requirements
Your journey kicks off with a job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada. It should be full-time, non-seasonal, and meet specific duration criteria based on the TEER category. Exceptions may apply to health care sector jobs.
Navigating the Application Process
1. Endorsement
- Secure a job offer and submit a settlement plan.
- Employer applies for endorsement, resulting in a provincial endorsement certificate.
- A work permit support letter may be issued.
2. Immigration Application
- Submit your PR application, endorsement certificate, and other documents to IRCC.
- IRCC reviews and processes your PR application.
- Apply for a work permit while waiting (if required).
- Upon approval, pack your bags for Atlantic Canada!
3. Support and Settlement
- Receive support from your employer and settlement service providers.
Temporary Work Permit (Optional)
Candidates eligible for permanent residence can apply for a temporary work permit, allowing them to work for the designated employer while their PR application is in process.
Your Gateway to Success
As you embark on this exciting journey, remember that the AIP places a strong emphasis on settlement plans and support services, ensuring a smooth transition and successful integration into your new community. It’s more than just immigration; it’s about becoming part of the fabric of Atlantic Canada’s vibrant communities.
